Am/Can Ch. Ridgepond Amberac Back In Time (Retro) took a road trip west and placed 4th in the 8-10 Veterans Class at the 2010 GRCA National Specialty in Greeley, CO in September. Retro had not been in the ring in over 5 years but had no problem remembering what to do and enjoying it too!

Ridgepond Return From The Land of Oz (Ruby)

Ridgepond Return From The Land of Oz (Ruby) placed 4th in her 15-18 month Sweepstakes Class at the 2010 GRCA National Specialty as well (and seriously out of coat!). Ruby has only been shown at the past two Nationals but you’ll see a lot more of her in 2011.

Joy had a great 2009, and accomplished much in her first year with owner Betty Badem. Her training involved basic puppy, Star Puppy, Pre-Novice, started Agility, started Tracking, Search & Rescue Seminar (with certificate!), Canine Good Citizen (with Certificate!), testing and registration with TDI (Therapy Dogs International). She’s active in social events including Tammy’s Tack & Feed Demo, Mit Lieb Shepherd Rescue Pet Expo, Copper Fest Parade, Read to Dogs Program, Responsible Dog Ownership Day, Green Bay Pet Expo, Christmas Parades and she belongs to 6 dog related clubs.

Joy's favorite of all is going to Copper Culture State Park. This is where she does most of her tracking and when finished she gets to run and play with her friends Coal (standard poodle), Tank (Rottweiler) and Mac (her step-brother). Joy and Betty go on long hikes at least once a week all year round on many of the State Trails including Peshtigo River State Trail, Sparta/Elroy State Trail( 22 miles part of the Wisconsin "400" Trails), LaSalle Falls in Florence (way up North where the bears are) - LaSalle Falls is part of the Wisconsin Wild Rivers. Kettle Moraine (North branch), Hartman Creek State Park, Mountain-Bay State Trail (80.5 miles goes from Green Bay to Wausau), Nicolet State Trails (Nicolet is 130 miles long).

Joy regularly visits 5 assisted living centers near and around town and has made so many friends (human and animals). She was instrumental in the start up of a Read to Dogs program, where children with reading problems sit and read to the dogs. Joy participates in this program and also goes to libraries and schools. She does Therapy work of one type or the other at least once a week. Watch for more updates on the adventures of Joy and Betty!

Meet Ole – service-puppy-in-training! Eight week old puppy Ole (Karma x Cooper) has started on his adventure in Minnesota with the Can Do Canines organization. Ole left Michigan today with his new friend Dave from U.S. Air. This airlines has partnered with MHSD for puppy transport and will make sure that Ole gets to where he needs to go in style (no crate or Sherpa bag required – he rode in the cabin with the rest of the passengers!) Ole will begin a 1-2 year program in which he’s raised by a family, trained by a team of experts and hopefully placed with someone whose needs he can serve.

Hearing Assist Dogs alert their owners to sounds like the doorbell, telephone, alarm clock, smoke detector, an intruder or a baby’s cry. Mobility Assist Dogs help physically disabled people by pulling wheelchairs, picking up or carrying objects, opening doors and performing other daily tasks. Special Skills Dogs offer various combinations of these services to clients with both hearing loss and a physical disability.

Ole is a sweet, loving, inquisitive Golden who will bring a lot of joy to his new family. Watch for updates as we watch Ole grow from a distance! For more information on this program, visit www.can-do-canines.org
